20. How to contact Gift Professor?

1.  Can I buy products directly from GiftProfessor.com?  Why not?

At this time, we are unable to offer a checkout with the GiftProfessor service. 

To buy a product, simply:

a. click on the image of the product you wish to purchase.  A new window will open.      
b. click the green Buy from button.  This will open a direct link to the merchant for the product you want to buy on the merchants website. 
c. Payment and shipping are handled through the merchant.

2.  How do I track a product I have ordered?

You should receive a confirmation notice from the merchant whose product you have ordered.  Contact them directly.  We do not have any way of knowing what you bought or when it is shipped.  If you do not receive a confirmation notice from a merchant when you order, contact them directly.  If they do not provide a satisfactory answer, cancel the order immediately and contact us so we can have them removed from our site.

3. What do you do with this information?

When you create an account with GiftProfessor and complete a survey, we save this information on our secure server so that only you can access it later.  If you set up an occasion reminder, we will send a friendly note to your e-mail approximately 2-3 weeks before the occasion, giving you plenty of time to shop.  We will also occasionally e-mail you about new features added to GiftProfessor.com.  Your e-mail address and survey results will never be shared or sold to anyone, ever.

4.  How do I create an account?

On GiftProfessor.com, click the "Log In / Sign Up" button in the upper-right corner.  Enter your e-mail address and desired password in the dialogue box that appears.  Click "Find the Perfect Gift" to activate your account.  Alternatively, you can "sign in with your Facebook or Twitter account".  See question 5.

5.  Can I log in with Facebook or Twitter?

Yes!  On GiftProfessor.com, click the "Log In / Sign Up" button in the upper-right corner.

To log in with Facebook, click the Facebook icon in the dialogue box that appears.  Enter your Facebook log-in information and click "Sign in with Facebook"  If you've signed in to your Facebook account using a mobile phone number, a GiftProfessor dialogue box will appear requesting your e-mail address and desired password to complete the log-in process.

To log in with Twitter, click the Twitter icon in the dialogue box that appears.  Enter your Twitter log-in information and click "Sign In."  If you've signed in with a Twitter username, a GiftProfessor dialogue box will appear requesting your e-mail address and desired password to complete the log-in process.

6.  Why do I need to give you my e-mail address?

Creating an account on GiftProfessor.com allows you to:

Save products in customized stores.

Retrieve product ideas for the people you are shopping for at a later date.

Set up date reminders for loved ones' special occasions.

Quickly retrieve a forgotten password.

Receive the latest updates about exciting new features as they're added to GiftProfessor.com.

We guarantee not to share your information or gift ideas with anyone, ever.

7.  How do I retrieve a forgotten password?

On GiftProfessor.com, click the "Log In / Sign Up" button in the upper-right corner.  Click the "Log In" tab in the dialogue box that appears, and click the "Forgot Password" link.  Enter your e-mail address, and a new password will be e-mailed to you shortly.  When you receive your new password, use it to log in to your account.  We recommend "changing your password" to something that can be easily remembered. 

8.  How do I change my e-mail address and/or password?

Log in to your account.  Hover over the pink avatar in the upper-right corner, and click "Settings" in the drop-down menu that appears. 

To change your e-mail address, click the "Email" tab and enter the new e-mail address you wish to use in both fields.  Click "Submit."  You should see a pop-up message confirming that your e-mail address has been changed.

To change your password, click the "Password" tab and enter the new password you wish to use in the second and third fields.  Click "Submit."  You should see a pop-up message confirming that your password has been changed.

9.  How do I deactivate my account?

To request an account deactivation, please "contact GiftProfessor support".

10.  Images in my Saved Stores are not loading correctly.

This is an ongoing bug* that we are working hard to fix.  Usually just reloading the page (clicking the refresh icon) will fix it.  You can also try logging out of your account & logging back in, or clearing your browsers cache.  One of these will likely make the images load correctly.  Sorry for any inconvenience.    *The problem stems from the fact that there are so many different devices on the web.

11. How do I take a GiftProfessor survey?

From the home page:

Select who you're shopping for, his or her gender (this field will not if you choose a relationship that implies a specific gender, such as Sister or Son-in-Law), fill in your recipient's name, and select his or her age group.  You will be automatically forwarded to the next slide in the survey.  For recipients younger than 8, we recommend browsing our curated selection of gift ideas specifically intended for babies, toddlers, and young childrenChildren and Family

On Slide 2, select an occupation Student will be automatically selected for recipients under the age of 18), three interests, and a personal style that best match your recipient.  To select additional occupations, interests, and personal styles, click the appropriate "+ add another ... ?" link.  Click the pink "Next" button to advance to the next slide.

On Slide 3, select three personality traits that best describe your recipient.  To see the definition of a personality trait, simply hover over the trait; the box will turn pink and a list of synonyms will appear.  After you have selected three personality traits, you will be automatically forwarded to the next slide.  If your recipient is under the age of 18, you will be prompted to log in or create an account before clicking the pink Submit button.

On Slide 4, select how long you've known your recipient, the closeness of your relationship, how you would characterize your relationship, and the gift-giving occasion.  To see the definition of each relationship characterization, simply hover over the characterization.  If you are not logged in to your GiftProfessor.com account, you will also need to enter your log in information before clicking the pink "Submit" button.  From this slide, you can also create a new account or "log in with your Facebook or Twitter account" (See question #5).  If your recipient is under the age of 18, you will be forwarded to your customized results page after completing Slide 3.

After submitting your answers on Slide 4, you will be forwarded to your customized results page.  From here, you can "save products" [link to "how do I create a saved store?"], set up "Occasion Reminders", or "buy products directly from our merchants".

From anywhere else on GiftProfessor.com:

Hover over the "My Stores" tab at the top of the page.  Click "Create a New Store" and follow directions outlined above.

12.  How do I edit a survey?

To change a response while you are taking the survey:

Beside your gift recipient's avatar are the numbers 1-4.  Each of these numbers represent a section of the Q&A you previously completed.  Click the number you wish to edit and you can revise previously selected attributes.

Click the response you wish to change, and select a new response.

If you wish to include additional occupations, interests, or personal styles, click the appropriate + sign. 

Your gift results will automatically adjust to the new responses you have given in the survey, but your saved gifts and occasion reminders will remain intact.

To change a response after the survey has been completed:

Hover over the My Stores tab at the top of the page, and click on My Saved Stores.

Click on the avatar of the person whose survey you wish to edit.  This will take you to the customized results page for that person.  A list of the occupations, interests, and personal styles you chose for this recipient will be listed under his or her name at the top of the page.

Click on the number 2 if the section you wish to edit involves interests, occupation or personal style changes.

Click the response you wish to change, and select a new response.

If you wish to include additional occupations, interests, or personal styles, click the appropriate + sign. 

Your gift results will automatically adjust to the new responses you have given in the survey, but your saved gifts and occasion reminders will remain intact.

13.  What if an occupation/interest/personal style is not listed?

Although we strive to cover the most common categories of interest, it would be impossible to list everything.  Try going a little more broad.  Even if we do not have the specific category you are looking for, chances are good that with our ever-expanding catalog, GiftProfessor can find items to suit your recipient.  You can also Contact GiftProfessor to suggest new categories for inclusion on our site.  We love feedback!

14.  Why can't I do a survey on a young child?

GiftProfessor is not currently optimized to do a survey for a child under the age of 8.  We invite you to browse our great collection of gifts specially selected for babies, toddlers, and young children.  Children and Family 

15.  Why is this product in my results?

See a product in your results that do not match any of the categories you selected?  In addition to selecting gift ideas based on your recipient's occupation, interests, and personal style, GiftProfessor uses the power of technology to offer suggestions based on your recipient's personality and the relationship you share.  GiftProfessor is not just a useful tool for saving time; it strives to make you a more thoughtful gift-giver.  This is what makes us unique.  If what you see makes no sense at all, please contact us.

16.  How do I create a Saved Store?

Simply by completing a GiftProfessor survey, a Saved Store is automatically created for your recipient.  We invite you to refer back to your saved stores for each new gift-giving occasion. 

Your saved stores can be accessed at any time by hovering over the My Stores tab at the top of the page, and clicking on My Saved Stores.  From there, click the avatar of the person whose store you wish to view.  You will be taken to the Gift Results page first.  Click the tab that says Saved Gifts.  This is where the products you have saved reside. 

Because we are constantly updating our catalog to include only the freshest, most of-the-moment products, your Gift Results page will likely look different each time you visit.  New products will appear, and occasionally old products may fall off.  For this reason, we encourage you to save products you like when you see them.

To save a product to a store:

From a recipient's Gift Results page, hover over the product you wish to save and click the pink Save button that appears.  This will save the product to that recipient's store.

If you see a product on one person's Gift Results page that you would like to save for a different person, hover over the product and click the pink More button that appears.  A menu of options will appear, including all of the other saved stores you have created.  Select the person whose store you wish to save the product to.

From the category pages on GiftProfessor.com, hover over the product you wish to save and click the pink Add button that appears.  From the menu, select the person whose store you wish to save the product to. 

17.  How do I delete a survey/saved store?

Deleting a saved store will also delete the survey you created and all of the saved gifts and occasion reminders stored for that person.  Once deleted, this data cannot be recovered.

To delete an entire saved store:

Hover over the My Stores tab at the top of the page, and click My Saved Stores.

Hover over the avatar for the store you wish to delete.  A trashcan icon will appear in the bottom-right corner of the box.  Click the trashcan icon to delete the store.

A dialogue box will appear asking you to confirm that you would like to delete the store.  Click OK to delete the store, or Cancel to cancel the action.  Upon clicking OK, the deleted store will disappear from your Saved Stores page.

To delete individual products from a saved store:

Click the avatar to open the Saved Store that you wish to edit.

Click the Saved Gifts tab on your page of Gift Results.

Hover over the gift you wish to delete, and click on the pink Edit button that appears.

From the list of saved stores that appears, click Remove next to the store from which you wish to delete the product.

A dialogue box will appear confirming that the product has been removed from that store.

18.  What are Occasion Reminders?

Occasion Reminders are a free service provided by GiftProfessor to remind you about important gift-giving occasions.  Two-to-three weeks before the date, you will receive a friendly e-mail from GiftProfessor, reminding you of your recipients upcoming event.  Unlike most date reminders that give you a nudge a day or two before an event, GiftProfessor provides a 2-3 week lead time to account for the time most retailers take to process and deliver orders.  You will never have to pay for expedited shipping again!

To set up an Occasion Reminder:

Hover over the My Stores tab at the top of the page, and click My Occasion Reminders.

Find the name of the person for whom you would like to set up a reminder, and click +New Occasion Reminder.

Select the type of event, the date (in mm/dd/yyyy format, or select by clicking the calendar icon), and how far in advance you would like to be reminded.  If you select Recurring, you will receive a reminder 2-3 weeks before the occasion every year.

For events with set dates, such as Christmas or Independence Day, the date will be set for you.  For events with floating dates, such as Father's Day or Easter, the correct date will also be set for you.

A dialogue box will appear confirming that your Occasion Reminder has been established.

To set up an Occasion Reminder from a Gift Results page, simply click on the Occasion Reminders tab, click the green New Occasion Reminder button, and follow the steps outlined above.

To edit or delete an Occasion Reminder:

Hover over the My Stores tab at the top of the page, and click My Occasion Reminders.

Find the name of the person for whom you would like to edit or delete a reminder, and hover over the reminder you wish to change.

When the reminder is highlighted in blue, click the Edit link that appears.

From here, you can change the type of event, date, and when to receive the reminder.  After making any changes, click the gray Save button.

To delete the reminder, click the word Remove highlighted in gray.

You can view, edit, or delete established Occasion Reminders from your Saved Stores page by clicking the red circle in the upper-right corner of each avatars box.  Avatars without a red circle in the upper-right corner do not have established Occasion Reminders.

19.  What is My Favorites?

My Favorites is a personal store where you can save all of your favorite products from GiftProfessor.com.  This is a great place to tuck away the treasures you fall in love with while browsing our site.  Having a bad day and need a little pick-me-up?  Buy yourself a little present from your personal store.  Want to share a unique find with the world?  Click the pink More button and select Share Gift to send a link in an e-mail or post it to a variety of social media platforms.  Or maybe you see a perfect gift idea for someone, but you haven't created a store for them yet.  My Favorites is a great place to stash product ideas until you find permanent homes for them in Saved Stores.

To save a product to My Favorites:

Hover over the product you wish to save, and click the pink Add button.

Select My Favorites, located at the bottom of the list that appears.

To delete a product from My Favorites or move it to another Saved Store:

Hover over My Stores at the top of the page, and click My Favorites.

Hover over the product you wish to move, and click the pink Edit button.

Select the store you to which you wish to add the product; a dialogue box will appear acknowledging that the product has been added to that store.  The product will still appear in your My Favorites store.

To delete the product from My Favorites, hover over the product you wish to delete and click the pink Edi button.  Click the Remove option that appears next to My Favorites at the bottom of the list.  A dialogue box will appear confirming that the product has been removed.
