1) The occasion, is this an engagement ring or just a ring that can be used as a fashion accessory?
2) What type of color, cut and clarity do they like? Cuts range from cushion, circle, square, emerald, princess, etc. (The cut may depend on the occasion)
3) What do you think they would prefer, silver or gold?
When it comes to rings my preferences tend to focus on cushion cuts for engagement rings (the bigger the better), big statement rings (for just everyday fashion accessories) and unique colors that help complete an outfit.
While keeping in mind the recipient’s preferences when shopping for rings, it is important to understand the research that goes into buying accessories. There are many factors that go into buying an engagement ring, more than buying a simple accessory that will be used just for fashion purposes.
If you are shopping for a loved one keep in mind that quality is more important than fashion. If you are shopping for a friend or relative, fashion jewelry is the way to go. Fashion rings can be just as unique as engagements rings if you stick to the personality of the person you are shopping for. Obviously someone who is not as into fashion would probably not prefer a ring that is large and dominates an outfit. However, someone who is a fashionista may like the statement that a large ring can make on an outfit.
