Hello, my name is Gary Patterson and I’ve been interested in Asia ever since I went to the University of Kansas. I originally became interested in Asian when I started studying Japanese Language and Culture my freshman year at KU. I had a number of Asian friends from Japan, Korea, & Taiwan. My Japanese language skills improved rapidly by hanging out with college students from Japan and dating a few girls from Nippon (Japanese for Japan…sometimes Nihon too). I figured out that I had a knack for Asian languages and met a lovely girl from Taiwan through my Asian friends at KU. After graduation I married her and moved to Taiwan for five years. I also learned Chinese (Mandarin) in Taiwan and it is much better than my Japanese now.
